Sarah and Trevor: our loveable, rambunctious rescue dogs

DogsSarah and Trevor, our two chocolate Labs, came into our lives quite unexpectedly. We were just beginning to get over the loss of our first Lab, Chelsea, when Tom’s friend Dan called to say he had just rescued a litter of chocolate Labs. I told Dan I wasn’t ready for another dog, not yet anyway.

Then one night Tom said he was going to the bookstore - he was gone a really long time. I was engrossed in watching the Olympics when Tom walked through the dark dining room holding a beautiful little female chocolate Lab in his arms with a rope around her neck. She was very submissive and shy and we fell in love with her immediately.

While walking Sarah, a neighbor asked us if we could be on the look-out for another dog like Sarah because she was so sweet and well behaved. Six months later, Dan had the same story - the same dogs had another unwanted litter. Dan had one dog left - a male, eight weeks old. I told our neighbors and they went up to Palm Harbor to meet the puppy. They were instantly taken with him. But after about a week, he seemed to be too much to handle and we said we’d gladly take him off their hands. That is how Trevor came to be one of our family.

We drove to California to visit our daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter last year with both dogs in the back of the car - they loved every minute of it. Trevor was very protective of our two-year old granddaughter and would give her face a sloppy kiss every chance he got (she was just his height).

Sarah and Trevor look forward to their walks with Tom every night and jump up in the air when it gets to be walk time, looking for him to walk in with their leashes. It is their special time with him.

Sarah and Trevor are as different as night and day - Sarah, sweet and submissive - Trevor, rambunctious and loving. They love each other so much, and we couldn’t think of living without these precious rescue dogs.
